OUR PHILOSOPHY
Honoring the wonder
of childhood
At Nurtured Community, we believe that childhood is not a stage to move past, but a world worth slowing down to truly see. Everything here grows from that belief.
our MISSION
At Nurtured Community Early Learning Center, we honor the wonder of childhood by creating a community where children are free to explore, discover, and grow through play, relationships, and connection with the natural world. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, the RIE philosophy, and social constructivist theory, we hold a strong image of the child as capable, curious, and full of potential. Together with families and educators, we nurture environments and experiences that reflect respect, joy, and a deep commitment to lifelong learning.
our Vision & Core Values
At Nurtured Community, we envision a school where:
Children are celebrated as active participants in their own learning, stewards of their community, and valued contributors to the life of the school.
Families are partners, welcomed, supported, and respected in the shared jour ney of their child’s growth and development.
Educators are learners, working alongside children with curiosity and care, respected for their professionalism, and supported in ongoing reflection and professional growth.
Community is at the heart, where relationships, belonging, and collaboration form the foundation of learning.
The environment is a teacher, thoughtfully designed to inspire exploration, creativity, and connection with nature.
Play is honored as the highest form of learning, where children’s interests and ideas guide the curriculum.
Respect and dignity are extended to every child, family, and teacher, grounding our practice in empathy, trust, and equity.
The approaches that shape our practice
Our philosophy is informed by four interconnected frameworks, each of which deepens our understanding of children and how they learn.
Grounded in decades of research, Developmentally Appropriate Practice reminds us that effective teaching begins with knowing each child — their age and stage, their individual strengths and needs, and the cultural and family context that shapes who they are. It asks us to meet children where they are, not where we think they should be.
Originating in northern Italy, the Reggio philosophy positions children as natural researchers who construct meaning through relationship and experience. Documentation, environment, and collaboration are central to this approach.
Rooted in the work of Vygotsky and others, social constructivism holds that children build understanding through interaction with peers, with adults, and with the rich environments we create together.
Resources for Infant Educarers invites us to see even the youngest infants as whole, competent people. RIE emphasizes authentic relationship, respectful care, and uninterrupted time for self-directed play and exploration.
We'd love for you to experience this community firsthand.
Words can only go so far. If you'd like to learn more about what our philosophy looks like in practice — in the daily rhythms of our classrooms, in the conversations we have with families — we warmly invite you to reach out.
